The Necessity of Acquiring a 5G-enabled Smartphone

5G is the fifth generation of cellular technology. It is designed to increase speed, reduce latency, and improve the flexibility of wireless services. 5G enables a new kind of network that is designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together including machines, objects, and devices.

Owning a 5G Phone smartphone is the ultimate goal of any tech-savvy Kenyan. Many benefits come with having a handset that accesses 5G connectivity, besides the prestige of being a handful in every bunch of 1,000 persons. 5G technology is now available in Kenya, thanks to the leading network providers Safaricom and Airtel.

5G Network Connectivity will give subscribers internet speeds of 700 megabits per second, which is 3x faster than the current 4G Connectivity. 5G connectivity allows operators to offer alternative services for homes and offices in areas their respective fiber networks have not covered. The subscribers who want to access and use the superfast internet need to upgrade and acquire new handsets that are 5G enabled. Such devices offer much faster data download and upload speeds, ultimately easing network congestion.

With 5G connectivity, you benefit from the following:

  •     Seamless transfer of data, thus improved connectivity among devices
  •     Ultra-low latency
  •     Better user experience
  •     Improved performance through the seamless transition of services between cellular devices and wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi

Here is a list of 5G-enabled handsets in Kenya, now available offline and online at Phoneplace Kenya retail stores.

Where is 5G being used?

Broadly speaking, 5G  is used across three main types of connected services, including enhanced mobile broadband, mission-critical communications, and the massive IoT. A defining capability of 5G is that it is designed for forward compatibility—the ability to flexibly support future services that are unknown today.

  • Enhanced mobile broadband

In addition to making our smartphones better, 5G mobile technology can usher in new immersive experiences such as VR and AR with faster, more uniform data rates, lower latency, and lower cost-per-bit.

  • Mission-critical communications

5G can enable new services that can transform industries with ultra-reliable, available, low-latency links like remote control of critical infrastructure, vehicles, and medical procedures.

  • Massive IoT

5G is meant to seamlessly connect a massive number of embedded sensors in virtually everything through the ability to scale down in data rates, power, and mobility—providing extremely lean and low-cost connectivity solutions.
