Display
The whole phone feels solid for sure. And we’d stack it right up there with Redmi Note 9 in terms of build quality. More on that in just a bit. With the display here Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro has gone for with this phone is a huge 6.67 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. The same caps out at a full HD plus the resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels surprisingly with HDR10.
This display also has 450 nits type. brightness (advertised) and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It has a pixel density of 395 pixels per inch, meaning the display is still fairly sharp. But we would have liked to see the 1440p resolution with the 90 Hertz display like the OnePlus 7 Pro had. Once more this is an HDR10+ certified phone. HDR10+ is a High Dynamic Range video technology that adds dynamic metadata to HDR10 source files.
Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro cameras
Now let’s talk about the cameras in true Xiaomi fashion. The cameras on the Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro, are great. On the back, there is a standard 48 MP (Infinix S5 Pro also), f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0″, 0.8µm, PDAFs supported by three other camera lenses. These are an 8 MP, f/2.2, 119˚ (ultrawide), 1/4.0″, 1.12µm, a 5 MP, f/2.4, (macro), AF and a 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth sensor). Aha! There is also that 5 MP, f/2.4, (macro), AF which comes on handy whilst shooting close up pics. AF denotes an optical system that uses a sensor, a control system, and a motor to focus on an automatically or manually selected point or area.
Oh yes, and then there was the front-facing camera – a.k.a the selfie camera. Poco M2 Pro’s is a 16 MP, f/2.5, (wide) shooter capable of working wonders. By the way, apart from the main camera, Redmi 9 Pro and Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro have the same camera module/system(s). Both make use of [email protected], [email protected]/60/120fps, [email protected], gyro-EIS video recording with the main camera. But with the selfie it is [email protected]/120fps. The two are the same phone dear reader.
Phone’s design
It is not water-proof the Xiaomi POCO M2 Pro. But it does have something interesting going on in water-repellent coating. Something even Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro does not have. This is a microscopically thin layer of nano-particles that can be applied to surfaces and thus render them water-repellent. The phone’s build itself is made of glass with a glass front Gorilla Glass 5, glass back (Gorilla Glass 5) but a plastic frame. We guess that the plastic frame was included here to ensure that the production cost remains minimum. Poco M2 Pro measures 165.8 x 76.7 x 8.8 mm and weighs about 209 g.
The Poco M2 Pro has an attractive design and is built well, but it also looks very similar to the Redmi Note 9 Pro. On examining both phones side by side, they appear to have the same body. Everything, including the buttons, ports, hole-punch in the display, and the rear camera bump, lines up perfectly. Poco has used a new angular striped pattern on the bottom three-quarters of the phone. The camera module has also had some cosmetic changes. The phone also has its fingerprint scanner side-mounted on the power button.
Performance
When it comes to the performance of any phone I think buyers are most interested in the chipset a phone comes with. Of course, RAM also plays its role here but that CPU/chipset takes the lion share. Xiaomi POCO M2 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 720G chipset. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G (SD730G Mobile Platform) is a fast mid-range and powerful ARM-based SoC and largely found on Android tablets and smartphones. It integrates eight cores (octa-core) divided into two clusters. The Snapdragon 720G is manufactured in the modern 8 nm process at Samsung (8LLP).
Herein also is an Octa-core (2×2.3 GHz Kryo 465 Gold & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 465 Silver) CPU and an Adreno 618. The Adreno 618 is a mobile graphics card for upper mid-range smartphones and tablets (mostly Android-based). It is included in the above-mentioned chipset(s) SoCs and based on the Adreno 600 architecture. Poco M2 Pro is an Android 10 smartphone with its OS based on MIUI 11. Storage option with its include 64GB with 6GB RAM, 64GB with 4GB RAM, and 128GB with 6GB RAM.
Battery
A non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery should go a long way, or day don’t you agree? Such is the capacity you get when you buy the Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro smartphone in Kenya. Furthermore, this battery is charged via fast charging 33W which delivers 50% battery charging in just 30 minutes. This is amazing! Even Realme X2 Pro which takes 35 minutes to charge from 0 – 100% is only limited to a 4,000 mAh capacity. The charging speed is what sets it apart. Nevertheless, Poco M2 Pro will not disappoint when it comes to battery longevity.
