There are three color options of Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G to choose from. These are Pacific Sunrise, Midnight Black, and Atlantic Blue. The phone has an overall heft to it at 214.5 grams. For added durability, the front and back of the phone are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 with plastic frames on the sides. But since the Mi 10i, 5G is a premium mid-range smartphone Xiaomi should have included metal frames here. At the back, there’s also this huge camera bump that protrudes quite a bit. The side-mounted fingerprint sensor which is the go-to security option on all LCD smartphones works quite well.

In terms of audio, Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G has dual speakers. So watching content on it will be one of the best experiences. These speakers are not necessarily the loudest, but they sound fuller and are not disappointing. By the way, there’s also a tiny little notification LED on the speaker grill. It’s amazing that Xiaomi has included one on this phone considering how it is extinct these days.

Moving on to the performance of the Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G you get the Qualcomm SM7225 Snapdragon 750G 5G (8 nm), which is relatively new (as of 2021, January 08) chipset with 5G capabilities. There’s no heating issue or such on this phone even after some heavy-duty tasks or gaming for an hour. So that’s great. General usage is also a pleasant experience on the Mi 10i 5G and the 120 Hertz refresh rate it has compliments the performance even further. Likewise scrolling through social media or web pages and navigating MIUI 12 is fast without even a single hint of lag.

Speaking of which, this one comes with MIUI 12 out of the box based on Android 10. Even though Android 11 had been debuted some months ago it is quite disappointing that the company is shipping this phone with Android 10. Anyway, this version of MIUI 12 is a lot more optimized for one-handed usage. On a different note, like with other Xiaomi smartphones, the company has decided to push ads in certain areas on this phone also. Like in the window that appears right to download an app. You can prevent this by going to the “don’t show recommendation” section in the settings.

On the display front, you don’t get an AMOLED screen on the Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G which is a slight letdown considering its price. About the display itself, it gets bright enough for casual outdoor usage and has good colors and viewing angles. With its HDR10 Plus compliance, this display suffices for all kinds of activities from gaming to browsing, to watching videos and stuff. In addition to this, Mi 10i 5G has a 120 Hertz refresh rate which just balances things out. This 120 Hertz display is also adaptive. This means that it can automatically dial down its refresh rate to 30 Hz for videos, or go all out 120 Hertz in gaming or other apps if needed.

At the back of the Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G, there are four lenses in total. A primary, 108 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.52″, 0.7µm, PDAF Samsung sensor, an 8 MP, f/2.2, 120˚ (ultrawide), 1/4.0″, 1.12µm lens, a 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro) and a 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth) camera along with a 16 MP, f/2.5, (wide), 1/3.06″, 1.0µm shooter for selfies. Its picture quality not only looks natural but more lively as well. Like the 9-in-1 pixel binning implemented by Samsung on its flagship phones, the Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G applies the same principle thereby producing 12-megapixel shots.

Finally, on the battery side of things Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G has a Li-Po 4820 mAh, non-removable battery. It can squeeze out exactly a day’s endurance and no more. Xiaomi has included its proprietary 33-watt power adapter inside the box just like on the POCO X3 and the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max. This 33-watt charger is quite fast and takes just about an hour to get the 4820 mah battery to 100% from 0.

Our take

Xiaomi India says that the “i” in the Mi 10i 5G means made for India. Made in India and customized by the Indian product team. But that aside, this phone brings some headlining features like a 108 MP camera Snapdragon 750G 5G chipset and a 120 Hz refresh rate screen. Overall Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G is a very good offering. No doubts. It does fall short of some aspects when compared to its competition though. But on the brighter side, it excels in other aspects like a better design, a higher refresh rate display, and a slightly better-performing chipset.
