Samsung announced its latest Samsung Galaxy M51 smartphone. It comes with a large 7000 mAh battery which is the largest battery on any Samsung smartphone ever. It arrives in two colors – Black, and Dark Blue. There is one price tag for the Galaxy M51 in Kenya as well for the different memory variants. It costs Ksh 40,000 for the 128GB version with 6GB of RAM.
Large 7000 mAh battery
Perhaps one of the key features of the Samsung Galaxy M51 is it’s large, it’s massive, it’s long-lasting, and also fast charging 7,000 mAh battery. Seriously, when-so-ever did you see such capacity on a smartphone? Even the likes of Tecno phones that boast large batteries have only achieved 6,000 mAh max with the Pouvoiur series. And Pouvoiur means power in French by the way. This M51 must be their king or something. Also, check this out.
A large battery would definitely take longer hours to charge by reason yes? So then Samsung added fast charging 25W here to ensure reduced wait time. The screen-on-time of Galaxy m51 surely is something to look forward to should you buy this phone. At this point also let me mention that this phone makes use of the 2.0, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector. Welcome to the Type-C club fam. That’s a 2.0, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.
Samsung Galaxy M51 Cameras
The phone comes with the same camera module as we see on the Samsung Galaxy A71. It does maintain that outstanding 64 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.7″, 0.8µm, PDAF main camera lens. You will understand how I mean once you snap the first picture with it. Present also this time is a 5 MP, f/2.4 dedicated wide macro camera. This one lets you get so close to your subject and it takes unbelievable shots, dear reader. The words are unbelievably good photos. The to know that this one shoots 4K videos just ices the cake.
With Samsung Galaxy M51 comes also a 12 MP, f/2.2, 13mm (ultrawide) camera lens, a 5 MP, f/2.2, depth sensor, and a superb 32 MP, f/2.2, 26mm wide selfie camera. Perhaps the only difference between the camera of M51 and A71 lies in video recording. The former, when it comes to video recording, do not [email protected]; gyro-EIS as the latter does. And that the selfie camera of A71 has f/2.2, while that of M51, f/2.0. Besides these two, they are one and the same.
Performance and platform
Not that I have anything against Exynos chipsets by Samsung but I am ever at peace when I hear a phone rocks Snapdragon. For this reason, I straight away was at peace with the Samsung Galaxy M51 because it has within it a powerful mid-range Qualcomm SDM730 Snapdragon 730G (8 nm) chipset. Make no mistake. Galaxy M51 may have the same design as Galaxy A51 but it is way much a better performer than it. Looks aren’t deceiving though since A51 is quite something too.
Anyway, with software experience, you shall be among the few Samsung users to unbox your smartphone and get it ready running with the latest software installed. That is Android 10.0 and with the latest skin as well in One UI 2. How nice. There is real value here despite Samsung with its bad rep with software updates.
Design and build
This is what you will notice straight away – the design of this Galaxy M51. Yes, it does have that signature A-Series look only that this time there are a few twists here and there. First, see the back panel of this phone. It is made out of glastic (that it a mixture of glass and plastic) but what strikes you the most is the prism pattern it has. I think the Pink option expresses this pattern better. I think in blue you will also love it. A nice implementation here by Samsung at least to get away from the obvious. Samsung Galaxy M51 comes with a quad-camera set up which I shall look into with interest later on in this review. In keeping with the design, we see an L-shaped orientation of the same right at the top left corner. Also, there is that LED flash on the back panel and all these are within the boundaries of a rectangular model in a vertical orientation. To be honest, since the cameras here are great I do not think anyone should mind this at all.
Now the view estate here is large dear reader, large. There surely is so much freedom, so much liberty with the 110.2 cm2 view estate on Samsung Galaxy M51. The phone screen just keeps getting bigger and bigger (this is good) by the day. And this time, we are looking at a 6.7 inches Super AMOLED panel. Just think about what you can do with this kind of display dear reader. Imagine the possibilities alongside the abilities this phone’s display puts at your disposal.
Some of the categories of people who will love it are gamers, those who love to watch videos, browse, edit photos, and so on. Basically, this is every human’s need smartphone with respect to its display. The fingerprint scanner is side-mounted on the power button this time around. Two last things one, the resolution of this display is 1080 x 2340 pixels and the second is that it comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
