Vivo Y90
The battle of budget smartphones has grown tight in recent days. Gone are the days of “small brands” there are no such nothings these days. The ground is level and now we even see these so called “big brands” competing in this space. Here comes Vivo Y90. You have probably heard about it but if not, do not worry because this article will bring you up to speed. Before you is Vivo Y90 review. By the end of this you will be sufficiently informed.
Vivo Y90 price in Kenya is 11,000/= or thereabout. Anything exceedingly more or lesser than this is an extortion or a counterfeit smartphone respectively. From that price you can easily pick out why I refer to this as a budget smartphone nay? Yes, it is affordable.
I am well aware of the fact that there are other smartphone options that may cost way less than that yes yes. And even those we have on this very website that sells most affordable smartphones in Kenya. I have said affordable, not cheap smartphones. Cheap is expensive, and you dear reader are not cheap. Anyway, for 11,000 what do we get? Let us find out.
Bigger battery
My reader this is the main reason why you want to buy Vivo Y90. I’ll say that again. Vivo Y90 is popular and most loved because of its big, and long lasting battery feature. As a matter of fact, the company itself announced that it is a phone they released with this specific need of its esteemed customers in mind.
What, shall we now dispute? Only if it were a misleading marketing strategy. But as it appears, there is nothing misleading about it at all. The battery capacity here is 4030 mAh non-removable Li-Po. I see some hating saying all that hype for just 4030 mAh? Friend, there is more to it.
When you consider other factors like display and performance optimization and minimalism then you will more thoroughly appreciate this battery. This is a “battery which works with Vivo’s exclusive smart power management system, allowing for Long-lasting endurance. Worrying about running out of juice is a thing of the past,” in Vivo’s own words, backed by our own experience.
Bigger Display
After the battery comes the display for Vivo Y90. And even as we proceed do not forget that this is Vivo latest smartphone (budget), as at time of our reviewing. Such an unfair thing to do not appreciating efforts made by meek. Look here, you will appreciate the 6.22 inches, 96.6 cm2 (~88.9% screen-to-body ratio) display panel of Vivo Y90.
This even more when you realize it has the same resolution as Vivo phones more costly than it like Y12 and Y15. I say this for Vivo Y90’s praise. That is right, it has a 720 x 1520 pixels, 19:9 ratio (~270 ppi density) resolution, ain’t that nice?
Vivo calls it a Halo FullView display. A fancy name alright that is well deserved. The panel is has that graceful dew drop notch with call speaker right above it. And although full view has not been achieved to the maximum, the effort we must applaud especially with the work done on side bezels. It (the display) also takes after the corners of the phone itself all at all four points.
The Design
Here I shall tell you about its dimensions and weight then later on quote Vivo for for basic fear of missing the mark. What an elegant design this phone comes rocking. So 155.1 x 75.1 x 8.3 mm and weighing 163.5 g. Then “The classical black and gold design of Vivo Y90 renders a profound and low-key style. Its 3D curves fit your palm perfectly, for an experience that’s truly irresistible.” A move also to provide comfort in the hands.
Platform and camera
With platform performance Vivo Y90 comes with a Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 (12 nm) chipset, a Quad-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The much I can say here is that there is faster processing speed while consuming less power, hence a smoother user experience. But for it to run Android 8.1 (Oreo); Funtouch 4.5 when Android 10 is out is a bit add. Maybe Pie 9.0 would sound. Hopeful for an update here.
For cameras, if you want the best of photos you can get with Vivo Y90’s selfie or main camera then I advice you switch to AI mode. Yes these are AI cameras and AI algorithms will see your pictures enhanced to achieve those finer and natural details. But the camera performance is average on both the main 8MP lens and front facing 5MP shooter.
