Nice display

Though slightly inferior, it basically is the same display like the one we saw on Samsung Galaxy A32 which was released 2021, February 25. Here, you also get a 90Hz refresh rate but 600 nits (peak). Immerse yourself in the large 6.4-inch Infinity-U Display of Galaxy A22. It does have an Infinity-U super vivid 720 x 1600 pixels Super AMOLED. That ~274 PPI density supports our claim. It is also a great display because Infinity Display is a near-bezel-less, full-frontal glass, edge-to-edge screen. It is also important to note that this phone has its fingerprint scanner side-mounted and not under its display.

Platform & performance

In Kenya, Samsung Galaxy A22 is available in three variants concerning internal storage and memory. These thee are 164GB 4GB RAM, 128GB 4GB RAM, and/or 128GB 6GB RAM. When you boot it up it will remind you that it is an Android-powered device. Android 11 for that matter with One UI Core 3.1. Now One UI Core 3.1 is not to be confused with One UI 3.1. The former brings a wide range of new features and the latest April security patch.

Some of the new features include a dark mode for your menus and a new set of gestures for navigation. Here, you swipe from the sides to go back rather than swiping from the bottom like before. But the old options are still there if you want. You also have edge panels here, which can be pretty handy swiping on the edge of the screen will bring you to a customizable space for shortcuts. At the heart of the Galaxy A22, is a Mediatek Helio G80 (12 nm) chipset.

The phone is also powered by a Mediatek Helio G80 (12 nm) chipset and an Octa-core (2×2.0 GHz Cortex-A75 & 6×1.8 GHz Cortex-A55) CPU. By the way, there is a dedicated slot for the SD card here in the event the internal storage limits you one way or the other. Finally, under the hood is a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. In a word, there really isn’t much of a difference in platform and performance between Galaxy A32 and this A22. 

Cameras

Arguable the cameras on Samsung Galaxy A22 are some of the best this phone has to offer. That main 48 MP, f/2.0, (wide), AF surely is. Alongside it is an 8 MP, f/2.2, 123˚ (ultrawide), 1/4.0″, 1.12µm lens, a 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro) and a 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth). If I am being honest, a 4K video recording would have been great here. Unfortunately video recording quality is only up to 1080p@30fps on both the main and the 13 MP, f/2.2, (wide), 1/3.1″, 1.12µm front-facing cameras. Get also to play around with features such as LED flash, panorama, and HDR.

Battery

Once more we call on you to exercise your thoughts on what we will say next. Samsung Galaxy A22 comes with a massive 5,000 mAh battery. We best describe its performance as the power that keeps you going all day long. Seriously though, isn’t 5000mAh so generous? We find it is.
