Design

The Xiaomi 11i brings looks that are quite similar to some of Xiaomi’s other recent phones, like the Poco F3. This includes the signature two-step camera bump and a glossy back of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The back is quite shiny and mirror-like and attracts fingerprints easily. As for the frame, it does appear to be made of plastic. Overall, the phone is on the larger side, but the thin edges lend it a bit of grip. One thing you do get on the Mi 11i which the Mi 11 doesn’t have is IP53, dust and splash protection, and proofing which is nice to see here.

And when it’s time to wake up the display, you can do so with the side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which doubles as the power button. For audio. The Mi 11i has a stereo speaker set up. It’s a hybrid one with one bottom-firing speaker and the other wish doubles as the earpiece. The speakers score a very good rating on loudness charts. If you’re looking for a 3.5 millimeter Jack, you’re out of luck here. And since the phone has an IR blaster, you can use it to control your smart appliances.

Cameras

Now under the cameras, the Xiaomi 11i has a 108 MP, f/1.9, 26mm (wide), 1/1.52″, 0.7µm, dual pixel PDAF main camera. There’s also an 8 MP, f/2.2, 120˚ (ultrawide), 1.0µm camera, and a 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro) macro camera. Shots from the main cam come out at 12 megapixels as nine pixels are combined in one. They are very good overall. The detail looks decent with a natural-looking rendition. See also 11i HyperCharge smartphone.

Portraits taken with the main camera look amazing. There’s excellent subject detection and separation. And although there’s no dedicated zoom lens, 2X times digital zoom from the main camera is relatively sharp and detailed. The ultra-wide camera on the other hand takes decent 8-megapixel photos with good sharpness. Close-up shots taken with the macro camera have good detail also.

Selfies are taken with a 16 MP, f/2.5, (wide), 1.0µm front-facing camera and it produces enough detail. The Xiaomi 11i can shoot video from the main camera up to 8K resolution at 30 FPS. 4k video from the main camera is nothing short of excellent. There’s a lot of detail with mature processing. Contrast and dynamic range are praiseworthy. You can shoot with the ultra-wide at 1080P and it’s decent for this resolution. There’s plenty of detail and what you will be getting is punchy colors.

Display

The display of the Xiaomi 11i is quite different from what we have seen in this series. It’s a flat 6.67 inch Super AMOLED panel with a 1080 P resolution and Gorilla Glass five protection. You do still get a fast 120 Hertz refresh rate. It’s not exactly adaptive between various refresh rates like on the higher-end models, but it will still dial down to 60 Hertz when you stop interacting with a screen or play video content.

This display is sharp enough with a pixel density of 395 PPI. You get those deep blacks as HDR 10 Plus support. And brightness is flagship grade here. It measures around 550 nits maximum with the slider. There are plenty of options within color settings to tweak the phone’s color reproduction. This means it is possible to achieve great color accuracy. And since the screen is AMOLED there’s support for an Always-on-display.

Performance

Inside Xiaomi, 11i is a cutting-edge MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G (6 nm)/Snapdragon 888 chipset. This provides some very strong performance in benchmarks. The phone sits near the top of the charts, edging out some of the more expensive competitors, including the Xiaomi Mi 11 mostly because of its less demanding 1080P display. Also inside the phone is a Li-Po 5160 mAh, non-removable battery. You will be able to charge from 0 to 50% in about 13 minutes.

With the Xiaomi 11i, you can opt for either 128 or 256 GB of storage onboard, which isn’t expandable. The interface is Android 11, MIUI 12.5 E. It’s basically the same interface we’ve seen for over a year now (as of 2022, January 12). wit MIUI 12.5 E you can split your notification shade into two menus, the notification panel and the control panel for the quick toggle options. And you can keep apps in an app drawer if you want, or keep them all on the home screen.
