Design and build

Despite being a budget friendly smartphone, I must commend Sony for the choice of material decided for Xperia L3. It has a premium glass-like back that justs makes it a beauty to look at. On that same back you will see the dual camera bar on the top right corner oriented vertically with an LED flash below it. the top and bottom bezels on the front are of same dimensions (typical Xperia) and they sandwich its 5.7 inches display panel. Xperia L3 fits very comfortably in the and thanks to its perfect shape and size. As a result, reaching all control buttons is easy, including that side mounted that placed between the volume rocker and power button.

Choose your favorite color of the Sony Xperia L3. Which comes in black, gold or silver. It is among the beautiful smartphones of its price range-most other smartphone in that category aren’t as striking as it.

Display

Well it is only natural to have expected it to rock that 21:9 display ratio that phones of its time of release have. That however is not the case. Instead it has a regular 18:9 ration on its 5.7-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. Display’s resolution is 720 x 1440 pixels, 18:9 ratio (~282 ppi density) which is rather low so it may suffer with viewing angles for example. But that’s not a deal breaker really since outdoor visibility is good since this display is brightly lit. Bear in mind that it is a HD panel.

Camera

Get artistic with Sony Xperia’s dual camera setup on the back. Enjoy beautiful background defocus and creative photos its dual 13MP + 2MP lenses brilliantly achieve. This 2MP camera is a basic lens for depth sensing whereas the 13MP handles the actual photography and video recording which stands at 1080p@30fps. The selfie camera on the other hand produces wow images with effects such as blurred background. There is no flash for the selfie camera but Xperia L3’s display produces flash illumination in low light. I think that is a smart move by Sony to make more use of its display panel. Take better looking selfies with this 8MP camera, and record video with it at 1080p@30fps.

Performance and memory

Platform

The processing power for efficiency its operations is powered by a Mediatek MT6762 Helio P22 (12 nm) chipset, its Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU.

It is an Android device with Android 8.0 (Oreo) installed. Software updates will eventually come ashore- although Android 9.0 (Pie) would have been a nice gesture Sony.

Internal storage and memory

Sony may have been a bit stingy with the internal storage of the Xperia L3 at 32 GB. What they weren’t so strict with is the 3 GB RAM it runs on. The good news however is that the internal storage can be expanded using microSD, up to 512 GB (uses SIM 2 slot).

Battery

Sealed within the back is a non-removable Li-Ion 3300 mAh battery that is charged with fast battery charging using the charger provided.

Pros Cons
  • Really great design and build
  • Good cameras
  • Good battery life
  • No outstanding weakness

If you are on a fairly strict budget and are looking to buy a smartphone with strong character and with touch classy Xperia touch then look no further than the Sony Xperia L3.
