Design

Design-wise the Realme 8 shares a very close resemblance to its Pro counterpart. But unlike it, this one achieves a glossy plastic finish with the same metallic-looking frame. It also has that “dare to lead tagline the bold text of which being a little bit more reflective giving it an eye-catching appearance. There is an included clear case in the box which you can slap on this phone. Now on the back panel, you will see four large circles that are the phone’s quad rear camera module.

On the left is a triple card tray for two nano-sized SIM cards and a micro SD card with expandable storage up to 1TB. While on the right are the volume keys and the power cum power button. You’ll find nothing at the top except the secondary microphone. And underneath is a 3.5-millimeter audio Jack, the main microphone, a USB type C port, and a single bottom-firing loudspeaker. There is a little bit of a chin though, on Realme 8. But this shouldn’t be much of an issue since the rest of the bezels are quite thin.

Camera

Realme 8 comes with a quad-camera consisting of a 64-megapixel main lens, an 8 megapixel. Ultra-wide a 2 megapixel macro and another 2 megapixels for depth sensing. While at the front is a 16-megapixel selfie shooter. With it you will be able to get great photos during daylight. Color reproduction is alright, able to get that natural look. Portrait mode which is becoming a fan’s favorite works like a charm here with its decent subject background separation.

When it comes to night mode, you’ll get a mixed set of results depending on how much light is available for the camera to use. Shots are fairly decent with that 16 megapixels shooter. And for video recording, we are looking at up to 4K@30fps with the main camera and up to 1080p@30/120fps with the same 16MP front-facing camera, or a selfie if you like.

Display

Checking out the display Realme 8 has a 6.4 inch Super AMOLED, HDR10, 1000 nits (peak) panel with Full HD Plus resolution. It has a pixel density of about 411 pixels per inch and maxes out at 1,000 nits as well, making it easy to use even under direct sunlight. This one does not have the 90 Hertz refresh rate found in its predecessor – which is strange. But you do get a touch sampling rate of 180 Hertz. Meaning the screen is very responsive. Everything is generally nice and vibrant with this display. If you look at the top, there’s a punch hole on the screen’s left corner housing the front shooter. Realme 8 has a dedicated dark mode that can be toggled on in the settings. Eyecare mode lessens eye strains during the evening.

Performance

As for software Realme 8 runs on Android 11 out of the box with Realme UI 2.0 skinned on top. And out of its128 gigabytes of storage, there seem to be 111 gigabytes of usable space left. Which is still a good amount of storage. Basically loading this with a bunch of apps and games will have no problem. And since you will be getting micro SD card support, you’ll have more things to be able to like multimedia files. Some signature Realme apps are pre-installed here. Of course, the usual apps from Google like YouTube, Gmail drive, Photos, and the like, as also pre-installed.

Under the Realme 8 hood is a Mediatek Helio G95 (12 nm) CPU paired with a Mali-G76 MC4 GPU. This is actually also the same exact chipset found on the Realme 7 clocked at 2×2.05 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55. Apart from the lack of 5G, Realme 8 is also missing NFC capabilities just so you know.

Battery

Everything about Realme 8 is powered by a Li-Po 5000 mAh, non-removable battery. On average it is more than enough to last throughout the day. Just as long as you’re not the type to the game for hours on end. For charging, the phone comes with a 30W charger out of the box and takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach from zero to 100%.
