Design and build

Chances are, you already know about Oppo K3’s cool selfie camera feature yes? The motorized selfie pop up camera, hidden within the middle top of the phone that pops up when you want to take a selfie? Anyone? This feature allows for more display estate on the front because there is not notch of whatsoever. The bottom bezel is slightly thicker than the top.

On the back is that typical Oppo design. You can easily tell it is an Oppo smartphone the moment you set eyes on that attention demanding back panel. With great depth of color and poetic style. Camera placement has been maintained with the smaller lens numerator, larger denominator- below which is the flash.

All three are in vertical orientation and centrally placed. Down below is Oppo branding. Volume rocker and power button are in opposite sides of the frame. It will also come to your attention how this one is handled with ease because of the slightly curved back panel edges and rounded corners. Oppo K3 is simply a beauty.

Display and camera

Display

Talk about an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. We all know about AMOLED’s reputable reputation, deep colors, crisp, sharp viewing angles and so on. That all you shall interact with here. The fingerprint scanner is underneath this panel, and it is quite accurate I have to say. This is how you unlock: Place your registered finger on the unlock animation and the rest will happened.

This panel is 6.5 inches making this a relatively big smartphone with a display 104.8 cm2 of surface area. We are also looking at 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~394 ppi density) resolution and all these coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. From the moment I learned AMOLED technology was the choice display type I was impressed, as should you.

Camera

Oppo K3 comes with a dual camera setup on the back: 16 MP main shooter with a 2 MP, f/2.4 depth sensor. Video recording with the main camera is 4K 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/120fps and the inclusion of gyro-EIS was a thoughtful idea.

That selfie camera is a motorized pop-up 16 MP, f/2.0 impressive wide lens. It shoots 1080p@30fps videos. Camera performance in Oppo K3 is simply amazing.

Performance

Platform

The K3 is powered by Android 9.0 (Pie) and themed with ColorOS 6. It has a powerful mid-range Qualcomm SDM710 Snapdragon 710 (10 nm) chipset with an Octa-core (2×2.2 GHz Kryo 360 Gold & 6×1.7 GHz Kryo 360 Silver) CPU and a seamless Adreno 616 GPU. I love how well Oppo played here with the hardware operation systems- that chipset for example is just fine choice for an affordable mid-range smartphone.

Storage

Choose a 128/256 GB internal storage with 8 GB RAM or 64 GB with 6 GB RAM. While you choose, I should remind you that there is not support for memory expansion on Oppo K3.

Battery

The battery capacity here (non-removable Li-Po 3765 mAh battery) is a little shy of what most actually expected (4000mAh). Nevertheless, it still does hold up fine and the phone supports fast battery charging 20W (VOOC 3.0).

Pros  Cons
  • Impressive cameras
  • Great design and build
  • High end chipset
  • Long battery life
  • Cool features like pop up camera
  • Rich camera features
  • Fixed storage capacity

Oppo K3 is a proven budget smartphone. Its features speak for themselves and it is also a great improvement from its predecessor Oppo K1. Buy yours today.
