Design and build

Now when it comes to the design it is no saying this. OnePlus 8T has a gorgeous looking design and comes in colors Aquamarine Green, or Lunar Silver. The phone has a curved back that is made from Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and its aluminum frame offers a comfortable grip. This same Gorilla glass 5 also covers the front display of the 8T.

One major difference is its screen is flat, not curved like on other OnePlus models like the OnePlus 8. Recently people have made it clear that they flat display because of accidental touches that curved ones bring. But unlike the Oneplus 8 Pro, the 8T. But you can still make do with some built-in splash proofing. The phone itself measures 160.7 x 74.1 x 8.4 mm and weighs about 188 grams.

48 MP Triple Camera

The way we would package the quad-camera of the OnePlus 8T is this. Macro Mode 2.0 lets you focus on subjects just 4 cm away, so you can bring more details into focus. Selfie portrait (16MP wide selfie) for taking high-quality selfies wherever, whenever. Finally, intelligent multi-frame processing to add brightness, clarity, and detail to low-light scenes. It is an advanced 48 MP camera system. We also take this moment to acknowledge the remarkably and dramatically improved video stabilization this camera is capable of.

It is just amazing even to know that 4K video recording is present here at 2160p@30/60fps. By the way, buy the OnePlus 8T if you have, or love pets. Here is why there are software algorithms that automatically detect when pets are in the frame and adjust the settings on the fly to reduce motion blur and help you capture your pets at their cutest. That third lens is a 116° Ultra wide-angle camera. It also has a 16 MP resolution. Visit this product’s official website to learn more about its camera features.

Fluid AMOLED display

Now OnePlus 8T’s displays are a 6.55 inches Fluid AMOLED panel with a 1080 x 2400 resolution. With it, you get a super-fast 120 Hertz refresh rate and 240 Hertz touch sampling rate. Because of these touch sampling rate features, moving elements on the screen appear even smoother than what you’d get on a 60 or 90 Hertz panel. This screen is more responsive too. Max brightness is good too up to 500 nits with the manual slider and over 800 nits in auto mode when in bright conditions.

A strange yet somewhat necessary feature is present with this display though. It will normally dial back to 60 Hertz after you stopped touching it. But if brightness is below 50% or you have a dark mode on, it will maintain a steady 120 Hertz refresh rate. This AMOLED display of the OnePlus 8T is amazing nevertheless. With it, you get good colors that are very accurate.

Performance

The Oneplus 8T is equipped with a Snapdragon 865 chipset, just like you’d find on the Oneplus 8 and 8 Pro. It’s not the latest and greatest hardware anymore. What still flagship worthy performance is excellent across the board. The 128GB or 256GB of onboard storage on the 8T is not expandable. By not expandable I mean you do not get the option to use a microSDXC card to expand it further than the storage capacity you will buy yours for in Kenya.

The Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 is the chipset of the year 2020. Bad as the year had started with a global health crisis, this chipset remains as good as we are about to show you. First of all this chipset delivers up to 25% faster (flagship) performance than previous generation Snapdragons. By the way, at least you are getting the new, faster UFS 3.1 infrastructure with the 8T. Should be a consolation for not having expandable storage.

Android 11, OxygenOS 11

Now under the new interface of the OnePlus 8T is quite a bit different from what we’ve seen before. This one runs Oneplus’ new OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11. Android 11 brings plenty of new features. A lot of the UI elements have been shifted toward the bottom half of the display to be easier to reach. There are still plenty of Google apps here too, like phone and messages. Another new feature that you get an actual always on display here and there are a bunch of customizations.

Battery

The battery of the OnePlus 8T is not something one should worry about because it is great as well. The OnePlus 8T has a 4500 non-removable mAh battery. One way in which the OnePlus 8T pushes things to the next level is with fast charging 65W, 100% in 39 min (advertised). It comes with a huge 65-watt adapter in its box as you will find when you unpackage this brilliant smartphone.

Audio quality

For audio, you get a set of stereo speakers. They are the bottom speakers and the earpiece acting as the second one. However, there is no 3.5-millimeter jack here. The audio quality from the speakers is pretty nice. Waking up and unlocking the phone is done with an under-display optical fingerprint reader. It’s super fast and responsive to your touch.

Recommendation

That is it for the OnePlus 8T and to sum it up let me just say a few words. You get a gorgeous looking glass design, a super high refresh rate, a Fluid AMOLED display, nice stereo speakers, flagship performance, and a sleek user interface. These being an addition to the excellent battery life with lightning-fast charging. OnePlus 8T deserves our recommendation.
