OnePlus 8 in Kenya

The price of OnePlus 8 (12GB+256GB) in Kenya is around 86,000 shillings. The phone comes with a 6.55-inch display, Snapdragon 865, 12GB RAM, 256GB Storage, and 4300 mAh battery. On 2020, April 14, OnePlus finally announced the OnePlus 8 (and 8 Pro), which confirmed rumors of a triple camera and the 90Hz display that the phone maker has been teasing since January. Here is our review of the phone.

Slim and Sleek Curved Design

The OnePlus 8 feels quite familiar in the hand. It’s almost identical to the 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro – from the curves down to dimensions and bezels. There are a couple of subtle differences though and you will notice most of them the moment you begin to use this phone. It has been crafted with remarkable precision the OnePlus 8. The phone itself looks stunning, weighs about 180 grams and measures 160.2 x 72.9 x 8 mm in dimensions. It is available in three elegant color variants. The OnePlus 8 comes in Onyx Black, Glacial Green, and Interstellar Glow. Oh yes and a refined Matte AG finish you shall see on the Glacial Green variant. The result thereof is reduced fingerprints and glare hence great looks and feel.

Advanced 48 MP Triple Camera

The way we would package the triple camera of OnePlus 8 is this. Macro Mode 2.0 lets you focus on subjects just 4cm away, so you can bring more details into focus. Selfie portrait (16MP wide selfie) for taking high-quality selfies wherever, whenever. Finally, intelligent multi-frame processing to add brightness, clarity, and detail to low-light scenes. It is an advanced 48 MP Triple Camera system. We also take this moment to acknowledge the remarkably and dramatically improved video stabilization this camera is capable of. It is just amazing even to know that 4K video recording is present here at 2160p@30/60fps. By the way, buy OnePlus 8 if you have, or love pets. Here is why there are software algorithms that automatically detect when pets are in the frame and adjust the settings on the fly to reduce motion blur and help you capture your pets at their cutest. That third lens is a 116° Ultra wide-angle camera. It also has a 16 MP resolution.

6.55 inches Fluid Display

Very quickly let us bring everyone to speed with what this is. A 90 Hz refresh rate that allows you to swipe, scroll, and navigate with ease. A refresh rate is the number of times your monitor updates with new images each second. For example, a 90 Hz refresh rate means the display updates 90 times per second. Such is what OnePlus 8 brings with its 6.55 inches Fluid Display. The company describes it as the 6.55″ Fluid Display flows seamlessly from one frame to the next – then the whole refresh rate thing follows. Important to note is that this screen is an  AMOLED capacitive touchscreen which does have 16M colors.

Oh wait, there is more to this display. It isn’t just a regular everyday smartphone screen you find on any smartphones. Firstly, note that this is a display that supports HDR10+. There is more to see with HDR10+ notwithstanding that it (the display) has an A+ rating from DisplayMate and an SGS Eye Care Display Certification. We need also to have you know that this one has 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution with a cinematic 20:9 ratio. Natural accuracy is what this screen aims to present. Colors are quite true to life thanks to a calibrated display that provides sensational color accuracy. To put it simply, the display of OnePlus 8 is designed to impress. Do not let it skip your notice it has a punch hole at the top left corner where the selfie camera sits.

Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865

The Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 is the chipset of the year 2020. Bad as the year had started with a global health crisis, this chipset remains as good as we are about to show you. First of all this chipset delivers up to 25% faster (flagship) performance than previous generation Snapdragons. X Dual Mode 5G and UFS 3.0 storage infrastructure come with it. Tell you what, OnePlus 8 brings you the next generation of WiFi with WiFi 6 with peak speeds up to 270%* faster than before. Thanks to SD 865 you also get Smart 5G to switching between 5G and non-5G networks to prolong battery life and maintain your connection.

The price of this OnePlus 8 is 85,000 shillings in Kenya for the 256GB + 12GB RAM version. 8 GB RAM + 128 GB OnePlus 8 costs around 81,000 Kenya shillings. These are the two storage options you will have to choose from. Now that this is out of the way, let us also mention that OnePlus 8 runs Android 10.0 with OxygenOS 10.0 straight out of the box. The phone has an Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 585 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 585) CPU and an Adreno 650 GPU. As for sound performance, OnePlus 8 has a powerful dual stereo speaker to deliver more immersive and detailed sound. With it, you get to enjoy a cinematic, 3D listening experience with Dolby Atmos’ support. Enhanced haptic vibration also gives you better feedback with every tap and swipe whilst you interact with your new OnePlus 8.
