Nokia G50 5G
The Nokia G50 5G is a new budget phone, with a great value proposition. It packs a very fast Snapdragon 480 5G chipset, a huge 6.82-inch IPS LCD screen, a generous 48MP primary camera, a huge 5000 mAh battery, 18W fast charging and a side mounted finger print scanner. At its price, it’s truly a great bargain.
Design
The Nokia G50 comes with a 6.82-inch IPS LCD screen with a dew drop design for the selfie camera. It has a screen to body ratio of 84.5% and quite bright and vivid, peaking at 450 nits with an aspect ratio of 20:9, making it an absolute delight to consume media with. It has a plastic frame and back, and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 front panel. Like many Xiaomi Redmi phones, it comes with an IR blaster and, fortunately, a headphone jack. It has a physical fast fingerprint sensor, conveniently placed on the side, integrated into the power button. It has a downward firing speaker, which are great for playing media.
Performance
The Nokia G50 comes with the improved budget Snapdragon 480 5G chipset, making it very fast and decent for gaming. It has a Cortex Octa-core 2.0GHz CPU paired with an Adreno 619 GPU, with storage options of 4/6GB for RAM & 64/128GB for ROM. It also comes with a dedicated expandable memory option, which is a plus. Running the latest stock Android 11, the performance feels very fast and premium. No lags or slow transitions on this one. Everything feels fast, fluid and rich in colour.
Cameras
The Nokia G50 has a triple camera arrangement on the back. It comes with a generous 48MP wide primary sensor, for those excellent daylight photos. There is an extra 5MP ultra-wide and a 2MP depth sensor to add bokeh or portrait effect on the photos. The video can support 1080p video at 30 fps, with HDR support & Zeiss optics assistance. The selfie camera is a capable 8MP wide sensor, capable of 1080p video at 30fps. The selfies are great and well lit.
Other features
We can’t fail to mention the charging speeds in the Nokia G50. At 18W fast charging, the phone can get to fully charged in about an hour. That’s fairly usable. That in addition to the fact that it also comes with a Li-Po 5000mAh non-removable battery, which is rather generous. Even with a power user, this should be more than a day’s worth. Of course there is no wireless charging here. It supports NFC for contactless paying. It comes in Midnight sun and Ocean Blue.
Similarly, priced phones would include Galaxy A32, Huawei P40 Lite, the Infinix Zero 5G and Infinix Nord N10 5G. the main distinctions at this price point is often a choice of better camera or more memory. The sizes are usually standard and the batteries are often huge. It’s unlikely there are wireless charging options as the price is too competitive.
The design is great, in addition to the many cameras and the huge memory option. The OS is stock android, which offers the least bloatware in all android skins.
