Nokia 8.3 5G

Nokia 8.3 5G is available in Kenya for a suggested price of around 53,500 shillings. It comes with a 6.81-inch display, Snapdragon 765G, 6GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, and a 4500 mAh Battery. Nokia 8.3 5G is the first Nokia smartphone to have support for 5G network connectivity. It was announced alongside Nokia 1.3 and Nokia 5.3.

5G connectivity

Nokia 8.3 5G was announced in 2020, March 19 with a Snapdragon 765G Modular Platform is optimized for 5G. It is also able to connect to GSM / HSPA and LTE. Although 5G is not yet available in Kenya, it is always great to be prepared for when times of refreshing come. Nokia says with 5G, so you’ll always be ready for what’s next.

PureView quad camera with ZEISS Optics

Do you recall Nokia 9 PureView? If not follow this link and find out more. It is a Nokia phone with nine camera lenses. I mention it because HMD refers to the camera of Nokia 5.3 as the PureView quad camera. This quad primary camera features a high resolution 64 MP, f/1.9, wide lens, and a 12 MP, f/2.2, 13mm ultra-wide shooter. Alongside these two are a 2 MP, (macro) and a 2MP depth-sensing lens. These are Zeiss optics lenses that capture it all and leave no detail behind (Nokia’s testimony). It is packed with the very latest technology and comfortably records 4K 2160p@30fps videos with gyro-EI Stabilization.

And then there was that 24 MP, f/2.0, (wide) selfie camera. Its wide feature should lead you into knowing that it is able to fit more faces into each selfie pic. This selfie also features Zeiss optics and HDR mode. The camera performance of the Nokia 5.3 5G is one of the best we have seen on any Nokia phone, even in low light. In their own words, I second when they say it is “a specialized low light ultra-wide camera plus advanced depth and macro cameras.”

Easily access your Google Assistant

Google Assistant is an artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant developed by Google that is primarily available on mobile and smart home devices. The same is easily accessible on Nokia 8.3 5G thanks to the dedicated Google Assistant Button. It is located on the right-hand side, the side opposite which the power button and volume rocker are. Whether you can remap it is a whole other subject. But you might find this out soon enough now that you are here. Speaking of the power button, it doubles up as the fingerprint scanner.

At this point let me also say that Nokia 8.3 5G is powered by Android 10.0 and is part of the Android One program. With this phone, you can expect improved security and more customizable options with the latest Android 10 and beyond. In addition, you’re guaranteed 2 years of upgrades and 3 years of monthly security updates.

6.81” screen Edge-to-edge display

Nokia 8.3 5G has an epic 6.81” screen. It is an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a high 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution. A decent display this is I must say. Consider first its size, then its resolution, and finally its cinematic 20:9 aspect ratio. This one comes with ~386 ppi density. Secondly, keep in mind that this is the first Nokia phone with an in-display camera. That is to say, the selfie camera is inside the display. This consequently allows you to view most of your screen with minimal interruption. Whereas this display’s protection has not been specified, we think it has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 like on Nokia 5.3.

Nokia 8.3 5G Design

You will also love how Nokia puts it. That Nokia 8.3 5G has a Nordic design – down to the color. Speaking of which, Nokia 8.3 5G is available only in one color that is Polar Night. It has these dimensions 171.9 x 78.6 x 9 mm and it weighs quite heavily at 220 grams. This weight is a result of its 4500 mAh battery and so is its 9 mm thickness. On the back panel is where you see Nokia branding and the Quad camera set up. Facing you us a slim chin with Nokia branding and an in-display. That power button as already mentioned doubles up as the fingerprint scanner. An in-display reader would have been nice though. But basically, Nokia 8.3 5G strikes with uttermost beauty.

Under the hood

We have already touched on the operating system saying it is powered by Android 10.0, Android One. What also exists inside consists of these. Nokia 8.3 5G comes with a Snapdragon 765G (7 nm). Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 765G mobile platform unites 5G and AI to power select premium-tier experiences. Onboard also is an Octa-core (1×2.4 GHz Kryo 475 Prime & 1×2.2 GHz Kryo 475 Gold & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 475 Silver) CPU and an Adreno 620 GPU. Quite a generous RAM and storage options here with 64GB 6GB RAM or 128GB 8GB RAM to choose between. There is a dedicated slot for storage expansion using a microSDXC with either version.

We wrap this up. Three things stand out for Nokia 8.3 5G. There are, it is powered by 5G, its PureView quad camera with ZEISS Optics, and that it will be powered by the latest Android software for at least two years on. Other features of the Nokia 8.3 5G include Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and 2.0, Type-C 1.0 USB.
