A camera to capture it all

Nokia 5.3 has four cameras. On the back are four of those and there is a single font facing one which is the selfie camera lens. Whereas its 8 MP, f/2.0, wide selfie does a great job I think the most focus was with the primary camera. It is an incredible quad camera with advanced AI imaging and 1080p@30fps video recording. These four cameras are a 13 MP (wide), a 5 MP (ultra wide), a 2 MP, (macro) and a 2 MP depth sensor. AI imaging is that it brings your night shots and portrait pics to life – no matter the time of day. And the same is present here. Unlike on the 1.3, that LED flash is only available on the back panel. HDR and panorama mode are features you should expect with this primary camera.

Get lost in the big screen

The big screen this phone brings is of and IPS LCD type. Nokia 5.3 comes with a massive 6.55 inches, 103.6 cm2 touchscreen. Besides it being a big screen with a large view estate it has been protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Again, its aspect ratio is that and cinematic 20:9 one and it has a rather low ~268 ppi density. It think what Nokia wanted to achieve with this display it did. This namely a big display. And I think there would be much more than just that to say about it if you example it was 1080p and not 720 x 1600 pixels. HMD also advertised that it has 450 nits typ. brightness which is a good thing. Viewing angles and outdoor visibility is great.

Built for speed, refined for play

You will see on the official website of Nokia 5.3 it is said this phone has been refined for game play. But I will speak particularly about its general performance. Its internals feature a Snapdragon 665 chipset, an Octa-core (4×2.0 GHz Kryo 260 Gold & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Silver) CPU and an Adreno 610 GPU. This SD 665 chipset improves gaming, camera capabilities, performance and security performance. Also, Nokia 5.3  comes with 64GB 6GB RAM. This eMMC 5.1 internal storage can be expanded using micro SDXC. There is a dedicated slot for this function.

Ready for Android™ 11 and beyond

That is right. Nokia 5.3 runs the latest Android 10.0 from its package since it is part of the Android One program. Android One delivers a pure software experience with a streamlined interface and no bloatware. In addition, with regular security updates and software upgrades this phone will always stay up to date with the latest its OS has to offer. HMD promises about 2 years of major software updates here.

Durability never looked so good

I have borrowed this sub topic from Nokia’s own mouth. I agree with the last bit of it. That is Nokia 5.3 has great looks going with it. It truly is a good looking phone. But on matters durability, given it has a plastic build, that I do not fully approve. I’m not saying this phone is not going to last not at all. What I do mean for a fact is that glass builds, though delicate, last longer. Metal builds last the longest and this leaves plastic build in position three. On the back panel of Nokia 5.3 you will see a circular camera module with a rear mounted fingerprint scanner below it. It has these dimensions 164.3 x 76.6 x 8.5 mm and it weighs about 185 g.

Google Assistant

Google Assistant is an artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant developed by Google that is primarily available on mobile and smart home devices. The same is easily accessible on Nokia 5.3 thanks to the dedicated Google Assistant Button. It is located to the right hind side, the side opposite which the power button and volume rocker are. See Nokia 8.3 5G.

Power you can trust

Nokia 5.3 has a non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery which lets you stay charged for up to 2 days. It is and AI-assisted cell with Adaptive Battery which saves energy for the apps you use the most. No more battery life anxiety here all thanks to this beefy battery.

We warp this up with a few final words. Nokia 5.3 has an incredible quad camera, a mega 6.55” screen and gives you peace of mind thanks to its 2-day battery life. It is one of those few phones which you can hardly find fault with. Consider for example the simple fact that in addition to the above named features you also get NFC.

Trade offs would include trivial things such as lack of fast battery charging and maybe its relatively low 720 x 1600 pixels display resolution. Otherwise this is a great smartphone. Nokia 5.3 is available in three color options namely Cyan, Sand and Charcoal. It has been fairly priced in Kenya at 19,500 shillings.
