Nokia 4.2

Nokia’s slogan for the Nokia 4.2 is It’s Got it All. What exactly the company is talking about is the reason for this review. The slogan doesn’t end there though. Because Nokia 4.2 is an Android One smartphone, Nokia says And More with the Google Assistant. This may as well be the first of its kind in the 4 line since we haven’t seen another before it. From the list above I shall talk about Android One program before I dive into to review. Android One is a near-stock version of the Android operating system released by Google. Android One cannot be altered by the companies that make the phones, and only runs on certain smartphones. Safe to say, Android One smartphones are a special breed. Some of the advantages you get with it include timely updates and frequent (usually monthly) security patch updates. It is also neat and comes with a promise if great user experience. Now that we’re on the same page, let is continue.

Design and build

Nokia 4.2 is a joy to hold, not forgetting that its brilliant craftsmanship allows one handed use. It has a premium curved 2D glass back and front that makes it has a beautiful finish. Its rounded corners have made it comfortable to hold. And in the same way the corners are rounded so is the display’s arcs on all four corners. Speaking of the display it has a 5.7-inch panel with a dew drop notch that houses its selfie camera that also unlocks your smartphone via face unlock tech. The dedicated Google Assistant button is on the opposite edge to where volume rocker and power button have been placed. On the back is its dual camera setup with LED flash in a bar and just below them you can locate a rear mounted fingerprint scanner.  Oh, lest I forget, there is Nokia branding on the back and on the chin bezel that’s below the display just to serve as a reminder whose stunning smartphone the Nokia 4.2 is.

Display

Its 5.71 inches, 81.4 cm2 (~76.6% screen-to-body ratio) makes it a compact smartphone by recent days standards and is an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. Resolution is 720 x 1520 pixels, 19:9 ratio (~295 ppi density). I think this display brings out Android One so clean and so neat as you will realize each time you unlock your smartphone.

Camera

Make full use of all three cameras on the Nokia 4.2 by taking advantage of its 13 MP rear camera which joins the 2 MP depth-sensing camera to shoot impressive photos and all the beautiful moments you see in front of you. Video recording is 1080p@30fps for the 13MP.

Its stunning 8MP front-facing selfie camera has a wide 74° field of view to fit in more background or friends in your selfies.

Platform and performance

Performance

Nokia 4.2 has a Qualcomm SDM439 Snapdragon 439 (12 nm) chipset, an Octa-core (2×2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 & 6×1.45 GHz Cortex A53) CPU and an Adreno 505 GPU. These constitute mid-range statistics on paper and performance real time. This is a smartphone meant for mixed usage users. If your regular business on a smartphone include browsing, taking photos, reading, watching videos and so on then Nokia 4.2 will be a perfect companion of you.

Memory

32 GB + 3 RAM or 16 GB + 2 GB RAM. Either internal storage can be expanded using microSD, up to 400 GB. The 3GB RAM version I would recommend over the 2GB model because it handles tasks and ops with greater efficiency.  Not that the 2GB RAM is a flop, I’m just saying 3GB RAM is a better to go for option

Battery

You will enjoy long hours of charge with its sealed within Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery
