HTC Desire 825

Those who have been following the HTC Desire series keenly will know that this, the HTC Desire 825 is the successor of the HTC Desire 630 check it out https://www.phoneplacekenya.com/product/htc-desire-630/. The Desire 630 was a great budget phone that held up well (still does) and offered a lot for less. But life moves on. We see HTC adding to its line an improvement of the HTC Desire 630, the HTC Desire 825. The bigger and better brother. A mid ranger still, but a better performer obviously. This review is for the purpose of decision making before buying this phone. Let us dive in.

Design and build

We see a familiar design as the one on the predecessor of the HTC Desire 825. To tell that improvements are entirely on the inside of this phone. Otherwise HTC would have added or removed hardware features. It has the same paint sprinkles on the back that add color to it. HTC calls it micro splash speckles. It does give it a good look on the back which is a snap on casing and has the primary camera with a flash right below it put on the top let corner. Then there is HTC’s branding in the middle of the back. The face of the phone features a selfie camera, a sensor, a speaker grill on the top bezel and three touch capacitive home, recent and back keys on the bottom bezel. There is HTC branding and a 5.5 inches display panel. On the top left corner of the phone is the selfie camera. The phone is enclosed in a poly carbonate plastic case. The edges are rounded giving it an easy to hold build and a beautiful look.

HTC Desire 825 comes with a 5.5 inches screen size of ~69.1% screen to body ratio. It is a Super LCD capacitive touchscreen of 720 x 1280 pixels (~267 ppi pixel density) resolution that has support for 16 million colors and multi touch. It is a good display I have to say. Good colors, good brightness, good punch and decent viewing angles. It is quite accurate with its color representation and as a natural soft to it. It does have corning gorilla glass protection to ensure its durability and just protect it from cracking due to accidental drops and such.

A 13 MP primary camera with an aperture of f/2.2, 28mm, autofocus and an LED flash. Then a secondary 5MP shooter is what we get on the selfie camera. Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama features are included in the camera software. It is a decent shooter back and front that gives some nice and okay images. The best of images though you will get in well light conditions as compared to poorly light scenes. Video recording stands at [email protected]

Performance and memory

We get a Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 chipset with the HTC Desire 825, a Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU for processing and Adreno 305 takes care of graphics performance.

It runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) straight from its package with HTC’s Sense UI layered on. An advantage of Sense UI is it comes with a theme store that allows you to customize how you want your phone to look. HTC’s customization is very impressive on the Desire 825 since this phone does not hang or stutter. It gives you a very light and fast experience. Which you will enjoy to use.

Internal memory is 16 GB with 2 GB RAM. It can be expanded with a microSD, up to 256 GB (dedicated slot).

HTC sealed a Li-Ion 2700 mAh battery with the Desire 825.

Connectivity and network

There is support for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC (depending on which market you are), an FM Radio and it comes with a microUSB 2.0.

Network: Single SIM (Nano-SIM) or Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by). GSM 2G, HSPA 3G and LTE 4G.

HTC included a front facing speaker (top bezel) on the HTC Desire 825. It is nicely set up as you will see on the attached link below. Great sound and audio quality on loudspeaker. The 3.5mm jack is present on this phone and on it we get 24-bit/192kHz audio over headphones with Dolby audio enhancement on the HTC Desire 825. There is active noise cancellation with dedicated mic. Great adjustments on deck.

This is how I summarize, the HTC Desire is a great phone. Comes at an affordable price and is the perfect smartphone for those who want a better performance and bigger display than that offered by its predecessor.
